The two cottages sit on 3.5 oceanfront acres at the end of a 1.1 km country lane. There is a flat, graveled parking area and a gentle slope to walk down to arrive at the front door. Each cottage is an identical mirrored image of the other. There are two steps up to the porch, one step over the threshold and two steps from the kitchen/lounge area to the bed/bathroom. The shower has a curbless entry.

Each cottage is 550 sq. ft. of open plan living. On the lower level is a full kitchen, dining area, 3 seater sofa & ottoman plus a gas fireplace. Up two steps is the sleeping area with a queen bed and tucked behind that is the bathroom with a door for privacy.

Ocean Song Cottages are two mirror imaged cottages (think of the wings of a butterfly) that sit on 3.5 acres of highbank oceanfront, the last at the end of a 1.1 km country lane. We are well off the highway so you will not hear any highway traffic. Our cottages are situated away from the beginning of our driveway, so no passing neighbourhood noise either.

The way the cottages are situated, you can expect reasonable privacy from the other cottage guests. When using your private porch & BBQ, patio or personal 2 person hot tub you cannot see your neighbour. The parking is also such that there is no need to see any vehicles.

We do have neighbours on either side of our property but their homes are obscured and they have never impacted our guests. There is an expansive lawn in the foreground with an unobstructed panoramic ocean view across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Olympic Mountains in Washington State; if you were to see your cottage neighbours it would be at a distance on the lawn as there is no need for them to pass in front of your cottage at all.

The cottages are located in Shirley, BC; on the wild Southwest coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We are an easy one hour drive from downtown Victoria along Highway 14, and just 20 minutes past the village of Sooke. Once you have confirmed your booking we will send you an exact address.

Each cottage has an exterior outlet suitable for plugging in your own trickle charger. Chargehub provides the following information: currently the city of Sooke, BC has 10 public charging station ports (Level 2 and Level 3) within 15km. 100% of the ports are level 2 charging ports and 100% of the ports offer free charges for your electric car. Check their site as they provide a map showing the location of the charging stations.

We do have a minimum stay of two (2) nights with Airbnb and VRBO, if you can only visit for one night please contact us directly and we will try our best to accomodate you. Please read the note below for holiday bookings.

Holiday Bookings: Three (3) night minimum over holidays.

All long weekends (Canadian and/or US) containing a statutory holiday, Christmas/New Years (dates will fluctuate year to year), and stays of 5 nights or longer require 1 month’s notice of cancellation for a full deposit refund. Deposits are non-refundable for cancellations made less than 1 month prior to your check-in. There is a $25.00 accounting fee on all refunds, this amount will be deducted from your refunded deposit. Full payment required 2 weeks in advance of check-in date, non-refundable.

Guest check in is at 4 PM and check out is at 11 AM. You will receive instructions and an electronic code to unlock the door in your welcome package. It’s okay to ask for an early check-in, we’ll accommodate you if possible.

Without pre approved arrangements for a private or micro gathering, the cottages can accommodate 2 adults per cottage, for a maximum of 4 adults at any one time on the property, with the exception being our staff.

We do not allow any visitors to the property during your stay or any additional guests (that includes children) other than the number specified at booking, without pre approval.

We have a very strict policy on these matters which is No Smoking of cigarettes, cigars, weed or vapes. There is also no burning of incense. The smells linger and it is impossible to have the cottage ready for the next guest. As the smells waft through the air for all of the above activities Smoking is strictly prohibited on the grounds (including but not limited to the porch, patio, hot tub or lawn.)

We have a strict no pets policy.

Ocean Song Cottages are surrounded by the forest and the sea. There is a mix of wild and domestic gardens and sadly sometimes pets, that the local wildlife enjoy feasting on. Regular visitors to our cottages and the beach are black bears (this year a Mom and two small cubs, another Mom with two adolescents), cougars, coyotes, deer and bunnies. There is an abundance of birds and two eagles that perch at the foot of the garden. Please be bear aware and manage your attractants (no food left outside, no garbage outside etc.)

At this time we do not offer a senior or military discount.

Unless prior arrangements have been made, no guests outside of your reservation are permitted on the premises during your booking.

The city of Sooke is 20 minutes away by car from Ocean Song. There you will find grocery stores, a liquor store, pharmacies, a post office and various shops and coffee houses.

We provide a fully stocked kitchen with an oven, dishwasher, full size fridge, cookware, coffee maker and everything else that most guests will require. Food items are limited to: salt and pepper, a few assorted, individually wrapped teabags and 1 cup of ground coffee that will make you 12 cups.

We provide all beddings and towels along with extras for our guests.

This is a bring your own device property but we’ve gone to great lengths to provide the best internet experience possible in our location so that multiple devices can stream HD video simultaneously if you’d like. With that said, internet may vary depending on network usage and weather.

Despite the remote nature of the Ocean Song Cottages, there is very reliable cell phone service from Canadian and US carriers. As noted above, Ocean Song Cottages does provide high speed wireless internet so you can reliably use various apps such as WhatsApp, iMessage, etc. and or Wi-Fi Calling.

Fortunately, the Government of BC has expanded cell phone service, including 5G, along the entirety of Highway 14 (Sooke to Port Renfrew) and you can expect that Ocean Song Cottages will have reliable 5G coverage. This also means that our guests have reliable 5G cellular service when out exploring everything that the area has to offer.

As there is no fencing at the cliff's edge at the end of the property and because much of the terrain is left in a natural state, the cottages are not child-proofed or child-friendly and therefore are an adult-only property.

For guests inclined to explore the Shirley, BC area there are numerous activities available. The cottages are 2 km away from the historic Sheringham Point Lighthouse, 4km from French Provincial Park, a short drive from the Sooke Potholes and within range of 7 wild west coast beaches. Beachcombing, hiking, cycling and surfing are popular pursuits.
